    Main research interests:
  • nanobiotechnology;
  • cellular and tissue engineering;
  • genomics and proteomics and related drug design;
  • bioinformatics and medical informatics;
  • biomedical signal and data analysis;
  • study of biological systems by computer modelling and experimental techniques.


    Main projects which are being carried out:
  • Nanobiosensors by layer by layer self-assembly
  • Drug design by genomic-proteomic approaches and by bioinformatics
  • Cellular and tissue engineering as relates to neural tissue regeneration, articular chondrocyte based materials and cardiomyocytes
  • Polymeric nano-engineered capsules for drug delivery with special reference to oncology
  • Atomic force microscopy with special reference to the identification of proteins on cell surfaces by functionalized AFM tips
  • Carbon nanotubes and their functionalization for delivery and sensing

  • Participation into several National sponsored projects and into several EU sponsored projects. As relates to the EU sponsored projects: at present involved in the TASNANO project (Sixth Framework Priority 3: Nanotechnology and Nanosciences, Knowledge-based Multifunctional Materials, New Production Processes and Devices) and coordinator of the CardioWorkBench project (Life Sciences, Genomics and Biotechnology for Health).
