Levanto Cinque Terre |
 |
This is mixed itenerary, with the car being used only for the initial from Levanto to Monterosso al Mare, and last stretches from Riomaggiore to Portovenere, and the visit to the Cinque Terre being made on foot or by rail. Monterosso is the start of an 18 Kilometre-long strech of very rugged coastline, often rising sheer above the sea, known as the Cinque Terre (5 lands www.parconazionale5terre.it ) for the presence, one after the other, of five maritime villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola e Riomaggiore. This area long remained isolated conserving its typical Ligurian culture of toil on the sea and on terraces, snatched from the mountainside with huge efforts, and mainly cultivated with vones (here they produce the excellent Sciacchetrç raisin wine, as well as local white wines).

Besides the scenic (and at times tiring) Sentiero Azzurro, the unhurried visitor can follow, on foot, the path from Monterosso to the Madonna di Reggio, from Corniglia to S. Bernardino, from Manarola to Volastra and the sanctuary of N.S. della Salute, or from Riomaggiore to the Madonna di Montenero From Riomaggiore the road arrives in La Spezia and then, following the inner west side of the Gulf, end at the tip of the headland, with Portovenere, another gem in eastern Liguria.S ituated in a bay protected by the Spezia shoreline, the ancient maritime village of Levanto is a model coastal town rich in history become a popular resort.
