Professor of Bioengineering and head of the Nanobiotechnology and Medical Informatics Laboratory at the Department of Informatics, Systems and Telematics, University of Genova.
Main research interests: nanobiotechnology; cell and tissue engineering; genomics and proteomics and related drug design; bioinformatics and medical informatics; systems biology; synthetic biology; computer modelling and experimental techniques; for the study of biological systems.

2002-2007 Founding Editor in chief IEEE Transactions on Nanobioscience .

Participation into several National Sponsored Projects and EU sponsored projects.
2005-present Coordinator of CARDIOWORKBENCH (Drug Design for Cardiovascular Disease: Integration of in Silico and in Vitro Analysis) sponsored by the EU.

Chair of the Special Topic Conference on Molecular, Cellular and Tissue Engineering (IEEE-EMBS), June 2002, Genoa, Italy, IASTED International Conference on Biomedical Engineering (BioMed 2008), The 8th International Conference on Nanotechnology and of NANO 2009.
Involvement in the organisation of several Conferences, organised by IEEE/EMBS, IFMBE, BMES, IOMP, NTC. Track chair/chair of sessions in such Conferences.
